"The powerful windstorm that knocked out electricity to tens of thousands of homes last monthcaused $52.6 million to $57.8 million in insured losses in Ohio, according to a preliminaryestimate released today by a state insurance group.High winds, rain and even bands of snowbarreled through Ohio on April 2 damaging roofs, gutters, siding and windows.Wind gusts of more than 60 mph were reported in several counties, including Franklin.Downed trees and power lines knocked out power to more than 30,000 utility customers in centraland southwest Ohio.The extent of the insured damage is based on surveys of insurance companies by the OhioInsurance Institute.Those surveys showed nearly 90 percent of the 9,334 claims are from homeowners with lossesestimated at $36.1 million, according to the survey.
