On a golf course generally known for unnerving the world’s best players, there have been enough low scores — including multiple flirtations with the course record of 63 — to make course designer Pete Dye feel as though he has gone 10 rounds in the ring with Mike Tyson in his prime. Dye’s Stadium Course at Sawgrass, generally described as diabolical, has become a doormat for a lot of players — beginning with leader Jason Day, who tied the course record of 63 in his opening round and pushed further under par on Friday, standing at 14-under for the tournament when play was suspended because of darkness.
