Newsclip®: [Business] Trail to replace Utica-to-Lake Placid rail line - Times Union

"A multi-use trail will replace the railroad line between Tupper Lake and Lake Placid, while the rail line south of Tupper Lake will be rehabilitated to permit train service between Utica and Tupper Lake, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday. The historic line from Utica to Lake Placid, which was restored for the 1980 Winter Olympics, had fallen into disrepair, and excursion trains had operated only between Utica and Thendara, and between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. A 1996 plan had called for full restoration of the rail line from Utica to Lake Placid, but recreation groups and others had wanted the multi-use trail.",
