By May 1 he had supplanted Casey McGehee, whom the Giants acquired in an offseason trade to be the everyday third baseman. On Sunday, a day after McGehee clambered back to the majors with a callup to the Tigers, Duffy assumed the major-league lead in consecutive games played at 188. Even if Duffy loses the iron-man mantle after one day because of an Achilles injury, the feat is impressive in light of how he got there. Duffy started 2016 awfully and approached manager Bruce Bochy more than once to say he would understand if the manager stuck someone else at third base.
