The new Bay Area high was up 7.1 percent from the year before and surpassed the nine-county region's previous record of $738,500, set in July 2007. "The median Bay Area home price hit a record high for the second consecutive month in May, rising in every county except San Francisco. The median price paid for a new or existing home or condo in the nine-county region reached $700,000 in May, up 1.4 percent from April and 6.3 percent from May of last year, according to CoreLogic. A home in that price range that used to take 14 days to sell is now taking 28 to 35 days, often after price reductions. “I am still seeing a tremendous amount of competition for well-priced, well-presented homes in the $800,000 to $1.5 million range,” but they have to be in nearly perfect move-in condition. Last month Kearney sold 26 Eastwood Drive, a two-bedroom, one-bath home in Westwood Park that needed new electrical, plumbing, foundation repairs and $100,000 worth of pest work.
