"Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes has accepted a suspension through May 31 under Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. The former Mets star agreed not to appeal the ban, which is retroactive to Feb. 23 and amounts to 52 games -- the longest since the installation of the league's new policy. Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was suspended through May 9. Reyes will forfeit $7.06 million in pay, according to Yahoo Sports. In a statement announcing the suspension, commissioner Rob Manfred said Reyes also agreed to contribute at least $100,000 to charities supporting domestic violence survivors or prevention. Reyes, 32, was arrested following a confrontation with his wife last Halloween in Maui. He allegedly grabbed his wife by the throat and shoved her into a sliding glass door. "DENVER — Former Mets star and current Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was suspended without pay through May 31, retroactive to Feb. 23, by Major League Baseball Friday following his Oct. 31 arrest for domestic abuse in Hawaii. Reyes was charged with abusing a family or household member after he allegedly choked his wife, Katherine Ramirez, and shoved her into a sliding-glass door during a dispute at the Wailea Four Seasons Resort. Still, prosecutors in Hawaii were ultimately forced to drop the charges due to lack of cooperation from Ramirez. That didn't stop MLB commissioner Rob Manfred from disciplining Reyes, who was originally placed on paid leave by the league in February pending the completion of his legal proceedings.
