"Rays baseball operations president Matt Silverman and Giants GM Bobby Evans spoke Saturday about the injury status of prospect SS Lucius Fox, a key part of the return in the Matt Moore trade, and potential additional compensation. The Rays' position is that Fox has a bone bruise in his left foot as the result of a foul ball that will require him to likely miss the rest of the minor-league season, and they were not made aware of it at the time of the trade. The Giants' position is that Fox had played for a week after the foul ball without complaining of discomfort. The Tampa Bay Times first reported on the situation Friday, and the potential for additional compensation. The Rays plan to keep Fox no matter what. Evans told the San Francisco Chronicle the issue seems to be a matter of a difference of medical opinion. He said the Giants would review the Rays' medical reports and some form of compensation could be worked out, possibly financial. Silverman declined comment", www.tampabay.com

"Rays, Giants GMs confer over injury to big prospect in Matt Moore deal WASHINGTON - General manager Bobby Evans and his Tampa Bay counterpart talked Saturday morning about the health of shortstop prospect Lucius Fox, who has a bruised foot that the Rays did not know about when they acquired him as part of the Matt Moore deal. The Tampa Bay Times reported the Rays might seek additional compensation from the Giants because Fox, one of the Giants' top prospects, might not play the rest of the minor-league season. Evans said Saturday that Fox fouled a ball off his foot a week before the trade but continued to play without complaining of discomfort. The Rays took a bone scan as part of Fox's entry physical and discovered the bruise, with their doctors deciding Fox needs to rest it. The Giants plan to review the bone scan. The Times did not suggest that the Rays feel the Giants purposely withheld in jury to complete the deal, and Evans said he did not sense an accusatory", www.sfgate.com

"Monday was a tumultuous trade deadline day in Rays land, and aftereffects are still being felt. The Rays traded three players off their big-league roster and got back one, albeit an injury-rehabbing one in SS Matt Duffy, and five minor-leaguers of various pedigree and prospect status. As disappointed as the now former Rays were to be dealt, they at least have the solace of by joining contenders — LHP Matt Moore with the Giants, OF Brandon Guyer the Indians, INF Steve Pearce the Orioles (where he played the previous three-plus seasons). The players who came to the Rays have to make adjustments of their own, starting with Duffy, who goes from playing for a second World Series ring to playing for 2017, and from playing third base to moving back to his original position of shortstop (bumping Brad Miller to first base) when he completes his rehab from an Achilles strain likely later this week. Here are some more notes, quotes and factoids about some of the traded players:The deals", www.tampabay.com
