"A three-run fifth inning for the Staten Island Yankees sealed a 5-3 New York-Penn League victory over the State College Spikes in the middle game of a three-game set Saturday night. The Baby Bombers improved to 31-23 record to stay 1.5 games behind the first-place Hudson Valley Renegades (32-21) in the McNamara Division. Chad Martin (2-0) picked up the win by pitching seven strong innings of one-run ball (unearned). He scattered seven hits. The Spikes were the first to jump on the board in the second inning as Riley Drongesen hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Jeremy Martinez. The Yankees tied the game in the top of the third when Nick Solak hit a RBI single to bring in Dom Thompson-Willliams. In the top of the fifth, Dalton Blaser belted a RBI double, scoring Solak. Kendall Coleman then hit a two-RBI single to plate Blaser and Kane Sweeney, increasing the lead to three runs. "STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Staten Island Yankees fell behind early and never recovered in dropping a 4-3 decision to the State College Spikes Friday night. The Baby Bombers fell to 30-23 overall and fell 1.5 games behind the first-place Hudson Valley Renegades (31-21). Vince Jackson blasted a two-run homer and Ryan McCarvel added another home run to put the Spikes ahead, 3-0, in the first inning off starter and loser Simon De la Rosa (4-3). De la Rosa gave up four hits and four runs in five innings In the third inning, the Yanks' Dom Thompson-Williams hit an RBI double to score Dalton Blaser and make it 3-1. But, Vince Jackson answered with an RBI single for the Spikes in the bottom of the third to increase their lead to 4-1.
