"ALBANY -- If dealing with the tax man wasn't stressful enough, New Yorkers have something new to worry about -- scammers posing as tax collectors by spoofing their phone numbers. The con artists have managed to clone the state tax department's fraud hotline numbers, so taxpayers who check their caller IDs think they're dealing with legitimate officials. Then the fraudsters go in for the kill -- demanding payments to untraceable accounts. Officials warned that the two numbers, (518) 457-5181 and (518) 457-0578, are only used for incoming calls and never for outgoing calls.
