"Despite ongoing impacts from the energy malaise and the weakened Mexican peso, Stage Stores officials expressed confidence Thursday that store and website upgrades and a new customer-loyalty program will offset some of the fiscal year's financial pain. The Houston-based specialty department store retailer said same-store sales dipped 9.8 percent during the second quarter, primarily driven by continued lower customer traffic in stores across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and New Mexico. In the Mexican border region, the U.S. dollar's strength against the peso continues to dent store traffic.
