"The Giants didn’t much care about the standings, knowing they had to deal with Zack Greinke, A.J. Pollock and a couple of hitters known to torment their pitching staff, Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb. The critics might revel in ridicule, but this remains a talented team — enough to beat Johnny Cueto 4-3 behind Greinke’s six composed innings and some timely hitting by none of the above-mentioned threats. Though Cueto exercised full command over the dreaded Goldschmidt, he lost too many battles of command (four walks, including one to Greinke) and gave up costly run-scoring hits to Chris Owings, Jean Segura and Welington Castillo, all in Arizona’s four-run fifth inning. The primary issue at the moment is whether they can risk recalling Yasiel Puig for the September stretch drive. Puig seemed recalcitrant in an ESPN interview, saying his minor-league stint is something that has taught me humility, and I am very grateful. "Would four of five be considered a roll? Well, yes, particularly if the Giants can beat Zack Greinke. They'll need all hands on deck to do that, and the good news is that Hunter Pence is back in right field after missing 3-plus games with right hamstr", www.redbluffdailynews.com
"San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto walks back to the dugout after being pulled from the baseball game after giving up a two-run single to Arizona Diamondbacks' Welington Castillo during the fifth inning, Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, in San Francisco.", www.azcentral.com
"Greinke and a bullpen that statistically is worse than the Braves’ cut the Giants to size in a 4-3 Diamondbacks victory over the Giants and Johnny Cueto, who lost the strike zone in a four-run fifth inning he did not survive. The Dodgers were rained out and will play a doubleheader at Colorado on Wednesday, when the Giants conclude a rare two-game series. Leading 1-0, Cueto started the inning by going 3-2 to the bottom three hitters in Arizona's lineup. Jean Segura singled for a 2-1 Diamondbacks lead before a one-out walk to A.J. Pollock loaded the bases. Cueto offered hope for an escape with minimal damage when he struck out Paul Goldschmidt, but Welington Castillo finished Cueto by flipping a single to shallow center to score two. The Giants got one back on the sixth on doubles by Hunter Pence and Joe Panik, Pence’s third hit, but Greinke stranded Panik on first-pitch grounders by Eduardo Nuñez and Conor Gillaspie to preserve a 4-2 Arizona lead.", www.sfgate.com
